Jannali, From Its Streets to Its Pipes
This leafy, family-oriented pocket of the Shire carries a name that translates roughly to "the Place of the Moon" in the local Aboriginal language. Growth here took off fast once the Second World War ended, when returning servicemen were given first pick of the blocks.
That history is written into the housing stock. Older cottages built from fibro and brick in that first wave sit alongside later 1960s-80s brick-veneer homes, with newer units and townhouses clustered nearer the railway line.
Original plumbing from that first post-war wave is now well into its eighth decade. On streets like Jannali Avenue and Railway Crescent, ageing hot water systems are what we get called out for most.
